The School of Hard Knocks In Session

Sometimes, I enjoy watching the optimism of youth. Y’know, when I’ll warn someone in game to watch him or herself (and their virtual money) around the server jagoff and youth will tell me that I “just don’t know the server jagoff, he really is a nice person and a good player.” Or, that “Server jagoff USED to be a jagoff but now he’s changed.”

Ya. I love optimism like that because it means they’re about to get a lesson from the school of hard knocks.

Like this lesson. Remember several months ago I told you about the World of Warcraft rogue that stole the bank from the Unguildables guild? (Parts I and II) Briefly, this rogue kept applying to join our guild and we kept denying him, so he formed his own guild out of the server’s unguildable players — those prone to drama or ninja’ing — then he did a late-night server transfer with the guild bank and told the Unguildables he had cut a deal with my guild for all of the them to join all of us in happy raid land.

I may have also told you (maybe I didn’t though), he returned to our server on a level one noobie rogue WITH THE SAME NAME as his thief character and was chatting it up with the crowd in Ironforge.

This is how that night went down. A few of us are sitting around in Ironforge after the night’s 40-man raid, marveling that our guild can kill anything with some of the “talent” we have, and I see in /say his noobie rogue chatting with a couple of our guild (ALLEGEDLY) female players. Let’s say his rogue is named Beneful.

Me: /officer wtf. is that fucking beneful?
Officer channel: He transferred. Remember?? He stole that guild bank.
Me: /officer Well I’m looking right at him in Ironforge. Who the fuck else would name their character with that dumass name?
Officer channel: Wow. That’s ballsy.
Me: (to one of the females chatting with him) Is that fucking beneful?
Her: teehee ya. He made a level 1 to chat with people. He’s lonely on his new server.
Me thinks: Musta run out of money.

Ordinarily, in this situation I’d be on high alert to carefully scour any rogue applicant to keep his thieving ass out of the guild, but as we hadn’t tagged a new rogue since 2005, high alert seemed unwarranted.

And You Can Quote Them

I love this World of Warcraft thread, because I’m so easy to please. “Phrases you will never see on the WoW Forums” The original poster, Sekkite of the Nazjatar realm gives an example, ” PvE and PvP are perfectly balanced.”

Other good suggestions:

  • Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and choices, and I won’t try to impose what I think on them. (Also by Sekkite. Hey!)
  • You are absolutely right, I DO need to learn to play! Thank you 🙂
  • I see your point, you’ve made me change my point of view.
  • Please detail in point format the reasons why you are quitting. Be as concise as possible, I am taking notes which will be forwarded to a Developer this afternoon. Thankyou. (That’s an lol.)
  • I’m quitting WoW to go back to Vanguard.
  • That warlock obliterated me with pure skill.
  • We’re sad to announce that Tigole and Furor are pursuing other opportunities. Incidentally, we’re now hiring lead developers who will focus on providing content for the majority of the player base. (ouch. burn.)
  • All right, you got me. I don’t really have 9 kids, a supermodel wife, two doctorates and a high-paying executive position at a Fortune 500 company. But I do bathe sometimes.
  • That NE Hunter’s opinion is completely valid and should be taken seriously.
  • They’re taking their time over there. (The poster explains, “I doubt most forum goers could spell it correctly.”)
  • I don’t really have even a lay-person’s understanding of what it would take to add a feature to the game, so I’ll refrain from making any demands in that regard.

That last one is just anti-consumer!

Eyesight to the Blind

Ding dong, Serpentshrine and Tempest Keep (World of Warcraft) attunements are dead!

Tigole wrote:

After a lot of thought and deliberation, we’ve decided to remove the attunement requirements to enter Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep: The Eye. While many of our attunements in the Burning Crusade have been good progression checks, a few of the attunements have turned out to cause unnecessary stress on guilds either doing the content or attempting to do the content. With Black Temple and Battle for Mount Hyjal thriving, we want to encourage (rather than prevent) new guilds and raid groups to attempt Serpentshrine and TK. We are going to leave the current attunement quests in the game so that players can still engage in the challenge and the lore of those quests should they choose to. At a later point, we are considering adding a final reward step to those quests as well (that way those who have already completed them would not miss out on a *new* reward).

We’re listening to feedback from you guys constantly and your opinions are important to us. We want this game to be the best possible MMO experience for our players.

Enjoy Serpentshrine and Tempest Keep =)

(Please note: This change will go live later today — it’s not yet active)

You may attempt to revive your guilds now.
