MapWoW.com World of Warcraft Maps — Fledgling Google map project for Azeroth. The site has the capability to display towns, instanced dungeons, and herb, ore, and treasure spawns, although those have been temporarily disabled due to traffic issues. For now, using the Gatherer mod is still the best bet for running down herbs and ore, but if that mod gets nuked in the threatened rework of the mod system, maybe the Google Maps API will save us.

Bla Bla Bla Me
Recall how much I enjoy rambunctious young’uns and how much I enjoy the disruptive nature of the Warcraft mod, Whispercast. (recall)
So a few weeks back, we had this young’un in the guild — high schooler if I remember correctly and how the hell can I ever forget — who was a BIG FAN of Whispercast. In fact, to hear him tell it, he’s the one that birddogged this mod down and introduced it to much critical acclaim! Best. Mod. Ever. per him.
Anyways. He was constantly spamming the guild boards with these autobiographical opuses. Months after joining, he’s still writing these Intro to Me! posts. Fuck.
Plus, he’d always come up with these fabulous strats for our raids that he just had to introduce MID-RAID. “Umm hey everyone. I had this great thought in study hall today about these mobs. We have a few minutes, right? I can outline it for everyone. First, I was thinking today in study hall …”
The one raid, I stopped him in the middle of one of his little strat speeches and /told him to shut up and not to speak again until we were all in Ironforge. Seriously. Every last player must be in Ironforge before he could speak again. Or else.
I regretted that immediately. Not because I was too rough on the tyke, but because he spammed threatening and angry tells cuz I had disrespected him. (Whatthefuckever.) And I’ll quote … Don’t you care that you disrespected a guildmate?? Me: No. No I do not.
Burning Funk
More Warcraft details from last weekend’s BlizzCon are available over at Atomic. There’s some info on the Blood Elves’ planned racial skills, upcoming changes to fishing, enchanting and epic equipment, expanded talent trees, more Crack Houses, blah blah.
And, there’s this little snippet, Update 2:
Blizzard plans to add digital signature checking for mods, to prevent the use of mods like Decursive. Details are not known at this stage as to when this will be implemented but designer Rob Pardo said that ‘they’re close’.
I’m not a big fan of the automagic mods, don’t use any myself, but I surely benefit from them, particularly the autocure varieties.
What would be the big deal here anyhow, except it doesn’t fit with Blizzard’s “Vision” for encounters? If that’s the vision, hunting for the cursed and popping a cure repeatedly, then I gotta say … THE VISION SUCKS. There are other mods out there that are far more … let’s say iffy, for changing the game to an almost bot experience — for the most part though, mods just patch gaping holes in the Warcraft UI.
Also, stop crawling up my computer’s ass in the name of gaming purity.
Thx.
