This AV Queue Stinks

There’s a lively Warcraft forum discussion about the addon, StinkyQueue, which syncs the Alterac Valley queueing for a group of players — y’know, instead of counting down in Ventrilo or Team Speak, “3 2 1 GO!” I’m more of a “ready, set, GO!” person, but that’s beside the point. (Forum thread: Is this illegal? … )

We’ve used it with moderate success. It’s about as reliable as doing the “3 2 1 GO!” thing. I’m not a fan of huge guild AV PVP; I prefer sync-queueing with one or two other guildmates and causing trouble at a graveyard or a tower. But if you’re so inclined, it’s a nice way to streamline the queueing.

No blue response yet on that thread, and I have no idea if it’s “illegal” or not, but I’d be willing to bet Blizzard isn’t happy about it — that mod has NERF written all over it.

PVP Grind #2, This Time with Less Ego

So I’m kinda getting back into the World of Warcraft PVP game. My rogue did the PVP grind under the old (heh, a week ago old) system and scored the black horse. Then they changed the mount system, and since I had deleveled from Commander of the Alliance, I had to do a mini-PVP grind to buy the black cat and dark gray ram. Anyways, been there, done that (twice).

As the new PVP system has had some reasonably priced rewards (nerf senses tingling), I figured I’d work on PVP with my priest alt. Holy priest, thankyouverymuch. (oh look, I was right!)

When I was rogue-PVPing, there was one thing in the battlegrounds more exciting than seeing a warlock pet … and that was seeing a KillMe stick. I’d be stealthing around wherever, looking for trouble, and out of the corner of my eye I’d see the bright yellow twinkles of a Benediction and woooo boy, I’m having priest for dinner tonight! If there was a warrior hanging out, I’d wait maybe 30 seconds for the warrior to get distracted by … I don’t know, an ice cream truck, an XBox commercial, it really doesn’t take much to distract a warrior … and then it was just the priest and me and an honor kill on the horizon.

That was my leet rogue strat for dealing with warriors … don’t mess with them if I didn’t have to. Here was my leet rogue strat for Thunderfury warriors … never leave stealth. Seriously. Too many bad experiences with that damn Thunderfury — I developed something of a phobia.

Posers

Here’s a Warcraft forum thread I really wish I hadn’t looked at: “Ever Seen Another Character W/ Your Name?” With the cross-server battlegrounds, I had known this was a possibility and had wondered how freaky that would be, to round a corner and run ker-smack into your opposite-faction self.

Depending on how freaked the other guy was, I’d probably waste precious stealthing time thinking “what in the hell is this????” and griping about posers in Ventrilo.

THEN, I read Reply #10 which suggested people do a character search on WarcraftRealms for their names. SONUVA … there’s 12 other level 60s with my main’s character name. A paladin! And, an even larger shame, a night elf hunter!

Ok that was bad, but this is worse: Raster did a search on his name and found a level 60 horde on our old server (our guild transferred away from that server to flee the lag) that was guilded with our former arch PVP rivals. (There was much cursing.)

Fucking posers. We carefully craft our game names and build multi-year, multi-game reputations, for better or worse, and they skate in and probably do all manner of stupid shit: stand in Rain of Fire, go toe to toe with a cleaving mob, taking a Locust Swarm in the face … ARE THEY EVEN VANISHING ON VAEL??

And one last thing, who’s the joker that made a character Fotonrogue on Kul Tiras???
