The Second Day was so much Better

So Day Two arrived in Guild Wars (Day One for you non-preordering types, ha!), and we continue our assault on max level in the least amount of time possible. This is the only way to actually win an online game … reduce the nuisance of it all to the minimum time.

Thank whatever god is this game’s diety for instant city travel. If I had to run all over the countryside backtracking as some of these quests expect me to do, I’d be plenty pissed. The instant travel is the bomb –> best … feature … ever. Guild Wars, no matter how brief my stay in this virtual world, will always have a special place in my heart for instant travel.

Here’s something else that’s great: the place is lousy with instances so escaping the unwashed gaming masses is as simple as stepping across a swirly portal thing. My /ignore list is already thankful, and refreshingly light so far with only two additions! I have to insta-travel back to town to sell off my crap loot, and there’s a dogpile of characters dancing by the main gate (WHY?? WHY??). Naturally, they’re filling the public channel with their unsolicited opinions about fucking everything, so much so that I can’t even keep up with tells from guildmates … zap! into an instance away from the madding crowd.

There. Two things that I like. I even said so in TeamSpeak and everyone else agreed … insta-travel and instances to escape the general population are two very good things.

The End.

Guild Wars: Day One — A Noob is Born

One of us is born every minute. (and two to take us!)

I had tried out Guild Wars a few months ago, at their first Beta event. Damn, maybe that was almost a year ago. (It was almost a year ago, I just looked it up. The blog never lies.)

We, meaning the guildmates we, discovered one of the best guild pranks EVER within the first few minutes. For the cheap seats, almost everything is instanced in GW. To do quests or travel in the countryside even, you portal into an instance, and can later portal back into a common or public area.

If you’re grouped with someone, they portal with you and, from our subsequent experiments, it looks like the group portals with you from wherever they are. Well, you can see the beauty here.

Guy’s talking to his trainer in town, groupmember portals out into Lakeshire, errr LakeSIDE in GW, the group is zapped over into the instance. The ultimate in gaming narcissism.

Well, *I* didn’t need to talk to anyone in town. *I* needed to talk to the guy in Lakeshire, err Lakeside. Whatever the fuck.

Drunken Scribbles

Sometimes when I’m playing World of Warcraft, or previously SW:G, I’ll jot down some notes so I have some material to write about. There are times, however, that I’m two sheets to the wind while doing said jotting.

Apparently that explains these two pages of notes I made about our (at the time) rioutous guildchat a week ago. Maybe two weeks ago — the days blend together when you’re subject to frequent blackouts. (I exaggerate!)

Like this note: “Ship comes in.” WTF. I didn’t even finish the thought and I doubt it was even funny at the time. Or this one: “women that –> men that don’t = happier” ??? Women that what? Why the arrow? Crimony.

Anyways, I have a vague recollection that my point was going to be: guilds with lively, pointless guildchat are the best guilds. And I’ve been in several where the guildchat bounced from here to there and back again, covering the entire gambit of human conversation.

I’ve also been in guilds where a large portion of the population is completely devoid of personality. I mean ZERO personality is in evidence. The most I ever knew about those people was the “incoming” and “/assist on me” macros. Well, that and they were DEAD serious about winning the uber. Time spent with the zero-personality crowd really should be counted against any prison time you might be assigned during your lifetime … maybe it should count for double.
