Wouldn’t Random Letters Have Been a Better Choice?

I’d like to know the story behind this Guild Wars character name choice:

Ted Bundy

Fan? Death penalty protester? Former penpal? Stared at the character creation screen for too long and was fresh out of ideas?

Normally, I don’t pressure anyone to pierce the veil of gaming anonymity that we all have come to know and love, but there would be no way in Hell that I’d call a guildmate Ted, as in Ted Bundy. I’d need to know a real name here or ANYTHING ELSE to call him/her/it. But hey, that’s just me.

I didn’t even think to check Ted’s class, but I’ll bet it’s Necromancer.

I was clicking through some new del.icio.us links, (mmmm, net freshness), when I happened upon yet another gaming web comic strip. Man … normally I don’t even bother reading those anymore.

To do a comic strip you need to be: A. funny, and B. a good artist, and most are C. neither.

I didn’t even get past the first strip, y’know to see if he was usually funny and a good artist, because his main character had the exact same name as this crazy fuck I knew in EverQuest-Classic. Let’s say his name was Venus, although it wasn’t, so don’t ask any Venuses you run across if they’re crazy fucks. (Even though they probably are, that would be rude.)

Now Venus, the character, was a half-elf chick, but Venus, the player, was a dude. (Ya, one of those shemales you’ve heard so much about.) Apparently it was Venus’ aim to roleplay a lesbian slut because he spent the latter portion of his EQ career trying to cyber the pants off of every pixelated female on the server.

At least he was carving out his own niche in the cyber game.

Some of you people aren’t even TRYING to come up with rp-type names. Crimony, I should have named my guy Read Afkgamer [DotCom] and slapped up a page redirect to the highest bidder.

Hey now … think of where that idea could go. An incredible synergy of gaming and product placement, that’s where!

Americas Favorite Beer [Budweiser] … not mine, but I can be bought.
Double Whopper Forthewin [BurgerKing]
ooo, how about a guild name [ComingSoon] with changing character names for upcoming flix?
or, Smoke Cigarettes [Yourmomwaswrong] … I’d have to get paid alot for that one.
