Titanium pwns Platinum

Not in time for Christmas, Sony announced the release of EverQuest® Titanium, a collection of everything EQ-Classic: old skool EQ®, plus the ten expansions of The Ruins of Kunark®, The Scars of Velious®, The Shadows of Luclin®, The Planes of Power®, The Legacy of Ykesha™, Lost Dungeons of Norrath™, Gates of Discord™, Dragons of Norrath™, Omens of War™ and Depths of Darkhollow™.

Titanium can be had for the low, low price of $19.99 beginning January 11, 2006. If you have the low, low price of $19.99 available now, that’s too bad. All you can get is Platinum … the old skool EQ® plus seven expansions. If you wanted to give someone the wonders of EQ® for Christmas or other non-Christian holiday, you’re in a bit of a pickle. No coincidence that.

But that’s not all! Beginning this week, on December 15, 2005, Sony’s launching a new player vanity service: EQ® Players. Here’s the full details, but basically, you can purchase for a monthly fee any or all of the following:

EverQuest II Premium Features. The following four (4) premium features may each be purchased individually for US$0.99 per month or purchase all four (4) as a complete package for US$2.99 per month (plus taxes, if applicable):

1. Advanced Character Profiles.

2. Dynamic Item Databases and Information.

3. Advanced Guild Tools.

4. Character Screenshot/Image Storage.

EverQuest Premium Features. The following four (4) premium features may each be purchased individually for US$0.99 per month or purchase all four (4) as a complete package for US$2.99 per month (plus taxes, if applicable):

1. Advanced Character Profiles.

2. Advanced Rankings & Leaderboards.

3. Advanced Game Data.

4. Enhanced Image Gallery.

Think: Magelo, Thottbot for EQ and ImageShack combined, for $3 a month. I guess. If it works, might be worth it. You tell me when you try it — it’s free through December 29th.

Did I say that was all? No, I did not. ALSO, former EQ® players can return to Norrath for 21 days of free EQ® gaming if we sign up before January 13, 2006.

Ummm no. But thank you for the Christmas gift. Unfortunately, I didn’t get Sony anything this year as I’ve moved on to another relationship with a gaming giant.

Legends

Last week, Sony ordered a mandatory evacuation for the Legends Service, aka Stormhammer, aka The Great Premium Server Experiment of 2002, effective February 1, 2006.

Kytherea, Sony CR Manager:

Dear Legends Subscriber,

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of EverQuest and the EverQuest community and hope you have enjoyed our Legends service. As of February 1, 2006, however, we will be discontinuing the Legends service.

At this time we have not determined whether Stormhammer will become a standard server or if all current players will move to existing servers at no additional charge to you. We wanted to hear from you before we made a decision and we will be including the Stormhammer community in the upcoming decision making process so be sure to watch for more information on the forums or in-game via messages of the day, broadcasts, or in-game polls.

As a thank you to our loyal members, we are allowing all current Legends subscribers to maintain their seven Veteran Reward benefits regardless of length of subscription.

Effective immediately, your account billing will be labeled “pending status,” which will allow you to choose a new subscription plan. This can be done by logging into the Station Store at https://eqbl.station.sony.com/launchpad/subscription.jsp, and then choosing a new plan. Please be sure to do this prior to January 31, 2006 to ensure your subscription does not lapse.

Thank you for your cooperation with this matter and if you have any questions or concerns regarding your account subscription changes, please contact our accounts and billing department at: 858-537-0898 or go to the following link to chat live with Customer Support (available Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm PST): http://help.station.sony.com/cgi-bin/soe.cfg/php/enduser/live.php You can also visit http://www.station.sony.com/en/services/help/customer.jsp for more support options.

If you would like to submit feedback regarding your Legends experience, please feel free to email your comments to Legendsfeedback@soe.sony.com

Thank you

… and that money train rolls to a stop.

Five Classic Gaming Pranks

It’s a hot night.

The mind races.

You think about your knife.

The only friend who hasn’t betrayed you.

The only friend who won’t be burned by your carefully laid trap.

Sleep tight, mates, for on the morrow, all Hell breaks loose.

If you haven’t yet discovered the fun to be had by playing pranks on your e-friends and guildmates, you’ve been missing out. First, a warning: pranks aren’t any fun if your target bursts into tears, quits the game, and finishes out his (her) life a mere shell of his (her) former self.

Ok, with some asshats that part would be fun.

Let’s just say this: consider your target. Some have a good sense of humor and will spend the rest of their gaming career seeking revenge; others will mope and whine and only fantasize about revenge. Also, consider the spirit in which the prank is given. Mean-spirited, malicious pranks should be saved for your arch enemies.
