PC Gamer Now Farmerfree

Next Generation has a reprint of PC Gamer Editor-in-Chief Greg Vederman’s February 2006 editorial announcing that the mag will no longer accept advertising from Gold Farmers and their ilk. (Warning on that link: Next Gen may force an ad on you to click past to arrive at their index. HATED! The reprint is in Features, dated 1/17/06, currently at the bottom of the index.)

Engage In-Game Advertising

Engage In-Game Advertising “A joint survey conducted by Nielsen and DoubleFusion shows a very favorable attitude toward in-game ads…” huh? I don’t know anybody who wants in-game advertising but how about this evil idea … you’re waiting in the Warcraft queue, because almost all the servers have queues nowadays, and instead of staring at the two tall statues with the fire blowing all around, you’re staring at advertisements for soft drinks, pizza and cigarettes. Don’t think that’s so far-fetched — a captive audience, a harmless ad, it’s all downhill from there.
