Good News Everyone!

According to a recent email I received, I can get in on the ground floor of an exciting investment opportunity in oil and gas futures! YAY! I don’t even know the guy that sent the email, that’s what’s so baffling about this unbelievable, once-in-a-lifetime decision! Obviously, my incredible business acumen will serve me well in this endeavor.

Anyways.

After that bit of a good news, I was able to log into World of Warcraft WITHOUT A HITCH. That’s right: no queue, no login problems, no Authenticating … Authenticating … Authenticating … First try, without a bobble, straight into Warcraft. I AM NOT MAKING THAT UP.

Then, while I was waiting for the guildmates to finish up reviewing every single auction at the Crack House, I checked the Warcraft front page and saw that they have invited everyone to copy a character onto the test server. You can do it too.

The copy service seems overloaded at the moment, but assuming it clears up and they throw open the doors on the test server … I’m saddling up.

Life just doesn’t get much better than this.

UPDATE: Character copy worked first time at 11 pm PDT. Anyone else looking to saddle up, test server character copy was still working late night Friday.

Ask, But Don’t Tell

Reading through Blizzard’s recent Lord Kazzak Crimes and Punishments post reminded me of a recent dragon raid on my server and my guild’s near participation in same.

This was almost a month ago and involved Azurgeos, the Azshara dragon. This other guild that we’ve been kinda sorta hanging with, co-oping on a few instances, sharing crafting skills, bla bla, asked if we wanted to do a joint raid on Azurgeos about an hour later when they expected to have the force, combined with ours, to take him down.

After confirming that they had covered the basics … dragon was up, there was adequate DPS, tanking and healing power available … we agreed. What the hell, should be interesting if nothing else. This allied guild has some good people — no obvious loot whores, no bitching when things go south, they keep their drama queens in check, and most importantly, they’re not drooling morons like 90 percent of the level 60s around these parts. However! They are still a little naive, as you shall see in a moment.

It’s Only Teenage Wasteland

Have you ever made an alt in an online game? (Christ, do I have to define “alt” for you now?) Y’know, an additional character just for screwing around when you tire of your main character? Maybe you’ll take this secondary character all the way to max level, maybe you won’t. That’s the beauty of the alt: it’s usually twinked up the ying-yang and it’s just for sport. No pressure.

Some players are freaking addicted to alts. They never max-level anything, just screw around with one of their 8 or 10 characters until even they, themselves, realize they’re an embarassment to the guild. I’m guessing they just never find their niche or a class they enjoy and can’t complete the deed. Given a long enough timeline, they’d be max level in every class. Which will be good for someday.

By all accounts, these type of players are just now reaching max level in EverQuest-Classic. Dudes, what fun was to be had in EQ has already been had. Let it go.
