The Tea Party in Pictures

Before I throw up some of the shots I took from last Friday’s warrior protest on the Warcraft Argent Dawn server, let me summarize.

I made a dwarf character on Thursday, just in case a queue stood between me and anarchy the next day. I logged into Argent Dawn approximately 15 – 20 minutes before the scheduled time with no queue in evidence. So I don’t know if they raised the server cap that night or the queue was inoperative or there were less people playing than normally — I understand AD regularly has queues.

Anyhow, I saw one server announcement when I first logged in that The Powers That Be would prefer if we went away … the server was forcibly reset at one point (with an accompanying Server Will Reset in XX Minutes countdown) … I, personally, was booted out of the game, (whether from server load or a /kick — who knows), three times and one more time with a rollback … at the Ironforge bridge, the protest’s targeted gathering area, a GM ordered protesters off the server, in General channel once and in /say once. Threats could have been issued more than those times — that’s all I saw after arriving and when I wasn’t offline for whatever reason.

Beyond the obvious show of solidarity among warriors, I took away the impression that these server loads are iffy. There were 200? 300? protesting gnomes and various hangers-on and the server was coughing up black stuff. PvE raids shouldn’t be that large (at that point it’s not a raid, it’s zergage), but PvP wars can easily grow to that size.

And let’s not even think about the delicious possibilities of intentionally crashing servers to ice your guild competition OUT of desirable loot areas. Because that would be wrong. In theory.

The Gnome Tea Party

You remember the warrior march on the Argent Dawn server scheduled for tonight?

You probably don’t. No matter, go read up on it, we have time. *pours another strong one*

Anyhoo, I’m coming to you live from the Argent Dawn tea party. I had made a character on Argent Dawn a few days ago, because ffs, I didn’t want to get banned. So I logged in tonight, quietly, INNOCENTLY, reporting in as a rogue in support of my warrior brethren.

In the five minutes that I was logged on, this is what happened:

I was kicked from the game. I said nothing, I did nothing. There was a GM announcement and I was summarily kicked from the game. (pussies)

Obviously, screenshots will follow … Attempting to login again …

**UPDATE01** I’m like flipping CNN in Baghdad … Got back in to Argent Dawn. No GM in evidence althought the Warrior-created guild is now bugged so they can’t invite others to the guild. They are about to begin the march to Ironforge. It is a sea of naked gnomery, and I cannot adequately describe how horrifying a vision that is.

It’s curious to me. All the Argent Dawn residents that are spitting and cursing at our warrior brethren for choosing a peaceful march on Ironforge as their form of protest when … NONE OF THE AD RESIDENTS even had to be in the zone. Yet, many are here. They are using the general chat channel and /yell to taunt the warriors.

This indicates that the residents made some effort to be here. If they are so disinterested and against this nonviolent march, why are they here? Is this their counter-protest? More to follow …

I Become Bitter and Twisted

Now I realize that not everything can be fun and games: hard work and reward, pleasure and pain, suffering and relief … one cannot exist without the other. Not every quest can, or should, be “run out five feet, kill 3 of these and return for uberness.” But, dammmn, some of these 50+ quests in Warcraft are a real bitch.

Lately, I’ve been camping these craft components for at least a century in gametime, and all those excrutiating quests from other worlds are passing before my eyes like a House of Horrors. Mountains of corpses at my feet, and, all I have to show for it are backpacks full of crap and ONE of the target items … ONE of sixteen.

It occurs to me, if They (that’s the Developer They Collective) were trying to piss me off, They’re succeeding admirably. And, if I were to write a short list of ways They can infuriate me with Their quests, it would look like this:
