Punk’d

I had another one of those wickedly evil ideas the other day. As you may know, I’m a fan of gaming pranks … all flavors … even when I am the intended victim. Like last week when one of my World of Warcraft guildmates submitted my character name and stats to this rival guild (and they’re ALL rivals) as an applicant.

I suspected something was up as he would start giggling on TeamSpeak every time I’d say “I just got a weird tell” (and they’re ALL weird tells). After I’d share that it was just another BRD invite from a guild I’d never heard of before, he’d say, “oh”, kinda dejectedly. I know now that he was waiting for his little prank bomb to go off and could hardly contain himself.

Finally, it detonated and we all had a good laugh at their (and my) expense. The fake guild app is a classic and I never tire of it.

He’ll have to try harder than that to top the prank I pulled off almost a year ago in Star Wars Galaxies when I told this perennially-hard cyberbag that a guildmate was a woman (IRL!!), but somewhat shy until “warmed up”, if you know what I mean and I think you do, and then … LOOK OUT, because the dude was in for one wild cyber ride. Heh, took the guildie a good month or more to peel that dog off his leg.

Fear the Power of the Visa

Earlier this week, I was out doing some real life pimping in soul-free LA, which is a great place to visit if you get paid to do so (emphasis on Paid Alot). Naturally, my primary concern was the continued progress of my soon-to-be uber Warcraft alt — well, besides bringing back bags of cash to my workplace.

Thanks to the wonders of drunken threats and repeated reminders on my guild message boards, the guild did drag around my afk ass and finished a buttload of quests and dinged many delicious levels on my alt’s behalf.

However, I feel like my finger is off the pulse of the online gaming industry, having been offline for a few days, and I do believe my duty here is pulse fingering. Let it be known, I take fingering seriously.

And, what have we here? (Originally spotted on ALL the better blogs: Aggro Me, N3rfed, the Poindexters, Lum’s joint, Skippy the teenaged blogging pundit, et al.) Summary: Sony, famed Nexus of Evil, is about to get into the game-items-for-real-life-cash gig.

Heh.

And really, who gives a fuck. It’s about damn time they got a piece of the action. Predictably, wailing, teeth gnashing and doom portending abound, but, in the end, it’s just another choice for the players — a choice we already had for many years, by the way.

No More Banana Bread for Me, Mom

I am a loot chest griefer. I make no apologies. I make no excuses. And, I intend to continue my life of chest griefery.

I wasn’t always such a poor example of a Warcraft citizen. I used to dutifully empty every loot chest, even the crap stuff like banana bread and wild hog shanks, but it’s been a long time since I was so conscientous.

My life of chest griefing began one day about two months ago when I was out at The Best Camp Ever in Burning Steppes. Nasty little hellhole, the Steppes, but it was ideal for a mature rogue like me in need of some major cash: squishy casters and a few melee mobs sprinkled around to keep it interesting.

My modus operandi: pick their pockets, then rock their orcish world. As a bonus, every 20 to 30 minutes a chest would spawn in one of four positions. And, there’s more! About once a day, a named mob would spawn to check up on his camp and he would get the same treatment as his lesser brethren. Usually, he had a rare or epic loot on his dead body.

Yes, it was heaven on Azeroth.

Then the professional farmers got squeezed out of Azshara and the Scarlet Monastery — a dynamic virtual world with a changing economy (that old chestnut) — and soon thereafter, they discovered The Best Camp Ever.
