Yes, You Must Have Voice Chat to Raid

Warcraft Forum Post #Gajillion3 about groups/guilds that require voice chat (Ventrilo or TeamSpeak) to run instances or for raiding: Vent/TS are now must haves to raid? I can sympathize, truly I can, and I don’t necessarily agree with requiring voice for little instance runs unless it’s a 45-minute Strath Baron run where people have to be on their game — but for DKP raids, everyone must be in Vent. And I’ll tell you why: who has the energy, or the WILL, to type out instructions for an encounter that’s been run 39 times before? This isn’t EQ (in this manner) where warriors hit Autoattack, lean back in their chairs and do whatever … ahem … they would do while slapping some sense into Lord Nagafen. This is Warcraft where warriors hit attack, and then use every other trick in their bags to hold aggro — only one of which is taunt, thankyouverymuch — and there’s little spare time to type out: CLOTH BACK OUTT HE CLEAVES!!!! or my personal favorite: FUKIN ROUGES VANISH!! Can it be done without Ventrilo/TeamSpeak? Of course. But most of us prefer taking the shortest route between the boss engage and the loot.

Myspace Sport

By now, we all know there’s some seriously funny shit to be seen over at Myspace. Maybe you’re at work, or on summer break (btw, we hate you), you’ve read your guild forums, you’ve read the game forums, you’ve seen all the YouTubes, now what? Here’s a fun sport I recently discovered: searching Myspace for your emo servermates, or if you’re VERY lucky, for guildmates. Un-believa-bly fun-ny. Start your search with guildmates who were STUPID enough to tell the guild they have a Myspace. (score!) Expand outwards by searching YourGame + YourServer. (score! score! score!) Finish off the stalking by searching for YourGame and enjoy the vast landscape of sparkly backgrounds and Panic at the Disco music. “Dear Myspace, My guildmates found you today. T-T Could Slayd be AFKGamer’s Foton? He’s mean to me. Mood – curious. Listening to – Who else, James Blunt.”

Monster Patch Day

Today is Warcraft patch day, version 1.11, colloquially known as the Naxx (or mage or shaman) patch. It’s a monster, 454.55 151 MB, if you haven’t been using the lag-a-riffic background downloader. Raiders, there’s a new version of CTRaidAssist, 1.5.3.7 dated 6/20/06, which includes updates to CT Raid Bosses. Grab what you can now — any and all delays could cost your guild the coveted “First on Server into Naxxlerammlewhatsit” title. That is all, citizens.
