Inside Their CM Accounts, Wreaking Havocs

In case you missed the keylogging hijinks on the World of Warcraft forums, this epic/legendary/gigantor thread covers the details — Blizzard Community Managers Nethaera and Drokthul get keylogged, the lucky bastard hackers use the CM accounts to post more keyloggers, PROFIT!, Blizzard’s Eyonix saves the day by banning the CM accounts, everyone has a good laugh and hugs it out.

True story. Except for the hugging.

(Thanks emailer Byron!)

The image links in that thread are probably dead thanks to the 10 million people clicking wildly to see Neth and Drokthul’s shame. Here you go: Drokthul and Nethaera.

Downtime All Around

World of Warcraft today, until 11 am PDT, for bug fixery:

Bugs:

  • Players will now be able to properly destroy the infernals in the quest,”The Fel and the Furious”.
  • Gladiator’s Plate Legguards: Fixed a graphical display error.
  • Fixed a bug that caused some systems to see terrain holes appear in the distance.
  • Stackable items retrieved from mail will no longer automatically stack in your inventory. This has been disabled pending a future patch fix.
  • Players will no longer see the flickering terrain issues that were introduced with 2.1.0 when the LOD system is enabled.

Lord of the Rings Online tomorrow, until 2 pm EDT-ish, for minty fresh content and bug/nerf-ness. During downtime, players can create a character on the Roheryn (test) server and auto-magically level to 30, 40 or 50.

The patch notes as of May 30, 2007, subject to change OF COURSE, and I heard they’re fixing the Bree Town Hall grocer repair costs although I can’t for the life of me find a reference. My imaginary blog intern has the day off so I can’t blame him for this lapse in service.

Aha! I birddogged the undocumented changes myself! Unofficial Changes List.

It’s rare to find this kind of dedication and determination in the lesser blogs, but I know you’ve come to expect this kind of hard-hitting reblogging from us. The royal us, that is.

Killing Time

Here’s a fun editorial from the Calgary Herald: Killing time with killing games.

Children, if you ask me, were meant to sit at the kitchen table wearing smocks and painting whatever inspires innocent imaginations. They were designed to run free in forests (or the neighbour’s backyard) and fashion bows out of sticks. They were meant to climb into summer hammocks and giggle for hours on end with friends.

Heh ya. If they’re GIRLS. And it’s 1970. In the suburbs. Given those parameters, I’m down for that. Let’s wear smocks and run in forests and make bows and giggle.

Demonizing video games is fun! And easy to do!

This is what I don’t understand with all these stories about young children and teens addicted to video games: are all these addicted kids employed? Did they buy the consoles and the PCs and the games, and, are they paying for the subscription fees and internet connections?

That was rhetorical. Don’t email me the answer.

Parenting is so easy in third-person view. I really don’t see what all the fuss is about.
