Sixty Seconds of Frodo Would Have Been Plenty

Tony, CEO of buttonmashing.com, live-blogged the MTv Xbox Next Generation special — and well done, too. However, sounds like the unveiling was tantamount to the Holy Grail.

BEHOLD, the One Ring of Power! No wait … BEHOLD the Xbox 360, Lord of the Game Consoles! DON’T TOUCH IT, be content with basking in its goodness.

Here’s something that was weird: Elijah Wood was a color commentator, or something. WTF? Where did that connection come from?

At a production meeting, did someone say, “We have got to get Elijah Wood for this!” “OMG, CALL HIS PEOPLE!!” (???)

Were they high?

I’m not convinced we need an entire TV special to introduce new products. Isn’t that what commercials are for? Toss Frodo and an Xbox 2 into a 60-second spot, there’s the intro.

I hope MTv runs several encores of the special. I’d like to miss it a couple more times.

Revenge of the Retailers

Star Wars and gaming, they go hand in hand like the ka-ching with the cash register.

Less than one week until the release of the (let’s hope) final Star Wars movie: Star™ Wars™ – Epsiode 3™ – Revenge™ of the Sith™ . And when I say “let’s hope”, I mean we can’t take much more merchandising avarice from this franchise.

(Somebody think of a new franchise, QUICK!)

I’ll be inserting some Star™ Wars™ links and fond, oh so fond, Star™ Wars™ memories to help build the hype from my end. I don’t know about you, but after Star™ Wars™ Episode 2™, I need a LOT OF HYPE to get me pumped for this.

Speaking of Star™ Wars™ Episode 2™, let’s start the link fest off right with a nostalgic revisit with Triumph, the Insult Dog, and his interview of the Star™ Wars’™ freaks fans waiting to see Episode 2™.

I’m as excited as a little girl!

Talkr — converts any text-only blog into a podcast. I wonder what AFK Gamer sounds like with a sanitary corporate voice spitting obscenities, but I’m not so curious that I’ll pay to find out.
