(And this is actually how I ran across the Radio Warcraft site and the upcoming player festival … because I’m really not as on top of the Warcraft news as I would be if I had proper monetary motivation.)
Player Athalus, of the Warcraft Mannoroth server, posted on the boards that he was improperly banned from Warcraft for using a teleport hack in the game. In other words, he’s innocent, so wtf (paraphrasing his words).
As I learned later, he’s the dude running Radio Warcraft, although when I read his initial post “one of the most visible players of this game”, I figured he was just another player with a Napoleon complex.
Eight pages of “die evil hacker!” replies later, Blizzard minion, Eyonix (post #147) responded:
Athalus, unfortunately the Community Team does not have access to the records and logs necessary to investigate this situation further. I’ve spoken with the Account Administrators and they’ve suggested that you forward the email you received concerning this issue, along with any other applicable information to wowaccountadmin@blizzard.com.
Here’s the punchline: As Athalus explained later in an edit to his original post, the GM email was a fake. With the server login issues tonight, he couldn’t login and assumed the email was legit. His edit:
It’s a scam email. And, the game login servers are being anal tonight so being given multiple rejections to login coupled with this e-mail gave me reason to believe this email.
Ten pages of replies and players are still hoping he dies in a fire, irl.
Angry mobs filled with moral indignation are so entertaining.
I hate the Blizzard fundamentalists.
Really hate them.
That guy’s really full of himself. “Most visible player in the game” but he’s a _GNOME_. (And only level 43)
