Now that I’m wise to this viral marketing game, I’m seeing it everywhere. Like this (now locked) post on the Warcraft forums about WHOLE GUILDS leaving WoW for DDO. (Furl archive — a locked thread is on borrowed time.) He’s either pulling a DDO paycheck or he, and everyone on his imaginary friends list, is high.

DDO: More Elves Online
Oh. I forgot to give a nod to Dungeons & Dragons Online that launched this week. Max level 10 (woohoo!), steep leveling curve (booo!), $50 box price (meh), $15 a month to play (pfffft!) and there be ELVES (hooray!). I played a few nights in one of the DDO beta events; got a few levels on my character (a rogue, duh) and shook some of the noob stink off of me. I didn’t think it was a bad little game, what little I experienced; didn’t think it was an awesome little game either. Maybe it’s one of those games that will age well, like Eve Online. (Succinctly: we used to have Eve Online jokes and now we don’t.)
Hand-Crafted DDO
Fileplanet subscribers can try Dungeons & Dragonsâ„¢ Online: Stormreachâ„¢ during the stress test which runs through Saturday 11:59 pm PST. All participants have a chance to “win” a closed beta account. One of DDO’s features: “Hand-crafted adventures for you and your party provide instances to shine as a hero – or a team …” Hand-crafted? Please. This isn’t jewelry.
