Curse

On the tail of my mental /boggle over GuildCafe’s venture capital deal, Chris Heintz, mouthpiece for Curse.com — formerly curse-gaming.com — emailed with some details about the recent redesign of Curse.com and its own hot VC injection.

I had noticed Curse’s redesign earlier yesterday when I went to check on some of my World of Warcraft addons. My reaction was something like, “hmm, another redesign at Curse. They sure redesign alot. If my bookmarks are broken again, I’m going to be pissed.” But they’re not, so I’m not.

Happy fun user information is in Curse’s news announcement and here’s the soon-to-be press release:

Now that’s a venture capital investment I can understand. They have the UI mods, they have some wowwiki synergy, they have the traffic. Profit!

UPDATE: $5 million. Interesting.

Warhammer Rats

Warhammer Online, the beta to die for, has been killing the beta accounts for the overly chatty among us (read: NDA OFFENDERS). Richard Duffek, of Mythic:

Yesterday we removed several more people from the Beta for NDA violations. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, however secure you THINK the location you’re spilling your guts about Beta is, trust me, it isn’t. There’s always someone there who will turn you in for the slightest chance of getting into beta. And you know, from our point of view, that’s a great thing. Our numbers stay the same, one out, one in.

So if you get into the Beta, please keep in mind, it’s not only us that is out there scouring the web for NDA violations, it’s everyone else who isn’t in as well.

I’m not turning rat for a “slightest chance” to get into WO beta, but if that chance was 100%, I’d turn any one of you in and sleep with a shiv under my pillow.

GuildCafe

Here’s another Myspace for game characters, I guess: GuildCafe. They just got a hot VC injection from IDG Ventures for buying pizza or juicing up the website, something like that.

I just gotta wonder, why? Venture capitalists do not screw around — they expect big returns within a defined amount of time, so where is this big return going to come from? Click throughs? Procter & Gamble advertising? I don’t think so, but I lack vision.

Anyways, the site itself is flash-tastic and a little rustic, however, there are several contributors working hard on content and being nice to everyone (before the community is ruined by Gamer Asshats like every other gaming community).
