Is My Mic Working Now?

Continuing this week’s theme of letting the better bloggers do all the work, Zen of Design’s Damion Schubert wrote a succinct commentary on voice chat systems in MMOGs: Voice Chat Ready To Come Of Age?, debunking four myths and identifying four problems with gaming voice chat. A built-in WoW voice chat would be a welcome improvement to our guild’s real life expenses — we pay some ungodly amount for a 50-man Vent server. If I ever spent some time thinking about all the overhead of a raiding guild, I’d probably take everyone out to the parking lot and /gkick them.

Check out zebhosting for your vent server. They’ve been charging me $15/mo for a 70-person TS server, I believe TS and Vent cost the same amount. Seems like a decent price. I’d give a full URL but you might think I’m a spam bot.

I like vice chats utility. I just hate wearing headphones. It kind of defeats the purpose of a snazzy 7.1 setup when you have to don the headphones to talk to people.
