Blizzard MEDIA ALERT

Issued under cloak of the night, early this morning, an important MEDIA ALERT from Castle Blizzard:

IRVINE, Calif. — Blizzard Entertainment® today announced that the release date for World of Warcraft®: The Burning Crusadeâ„¢, the highly anticipated expansion for World of Warcraft, will be in January 2007. By adding a few extra weeks to the development cycle beyond its original target date, Blizzard will be able to extend the closed beta test and further refine the new content that will ship with the game.

“We appreciate the enthusiasm surrounding World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, and we’re excited about putting the finishing touches on all of the new content,” said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We feel confident that the extra time spent polishing the game will result in the high-quality experience that our players expect and deserve.”

Blizzard began the closed-beta phase of testing on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade earlier this month. The January 2007 release window will allow extra time for current beta testers to participate in the final stages of development and continue providing valuable feedback.

Further information on specific worldwide release dates, pricing, and other details will be announced in the near future.

They need time to nerf a bunch of stuff. (Oh, I’m kidding!)

I’ve only run around in the beta a few days, but I haven’t noticed much of anything that’s buggy, broken or largely incomplete. Sure, there’s stuff to fix, didn’t seem like two additional months’ worth of work to me.

This expansion is really quite nice. That’s me being understated. I really mean, it’s incredible and worth skipping guild raids to play (not to mention skipping work, but that would be very irresponsible of you).

  1. Dammit, my ‘I’ve been raiding too much’ break was perfectly timed with my ‘I don’t want to run BWL for a 100th time to get a item I’ll replace in a week’ lack of motivation – I was set to peak again come BC release. This delay will throw off my whole timeline.

  2. Part of me is kinda upset that the expansion isn’t going to be released “as it should have been”. I stopped playing 5 months ago, for lack of “casual” content, and my inability to join a raiding guild with no retarded schedules, and i what i’ve seen and read about the xpac so far really made me want to play again.

On the other hand, i know Blizzard (sounds like a fanboi rant, eh ?) and i know that these two extra months means more polish, more details, eck, even a few more quests and fluff for us to enjoy until the next xpac.

Now if only i could find something to play until January .. 🙂

  3. Ah well. Let’s face it. when it was announced, we all thought it was due in July 06. We’ve waited this long, we can wait a little longer. Maybe it’s time to give myself a hoarde alt, for a break.

That said, it’ll give me lots of time for Gears Of War.

  4. I’m torn really. Nightfall is out this week, so I’m glad I get extra time for that. However, I get the feeling that just when I get into Nightfall I’ll get my guild beta key. At any rate, time to withdraw the vacation request. 😉

  5. Not buggy? How about Nagas that makes us crash everytime you click them in an instance? ;p

  6. I got in!!

And the doctor said that, barring any complications, I should be able to live a full, happy life with only one kidney! Wooters
