World of Warcraft is NOT a Golf Course

I had mentioned before that this Joi Ito dude plays World of Warcraft. (I reblog myself.) 1up recently interviewed Ito about World of Warcraft as the new way to make business connections … the golf course evolved, so to speak. Listen. You don’t want to play WoW with coworkers (or worse, clients), you don’t want to be guilded with them, you don’t even want them to KNOW your dirty little Warcraft secret and I’ll tell you why: Game drama intruding on real life is catastrophic — we’re talking worlds-collliding-type catastrophic. Don’t let this happen to you. Work people ask me if I’ve heard about this “World of Warcraft thing”, my standard answer is, “I’ve dabbled”, then I walk away. That’s my Constitution: separation of play and work.

  1. Yeah, I can see it now. Multi-millionares chatting it up in /raid during a MC run. Then the tank says, “STFU n00bs and get moving you stupid bastards. I’m getting killed here while you two chat over deals”.
