China Gaming Limits

China to restrict online gaming sessions of more than 3 hours — “Compulsory deployment of the new system is expected to begin for all massive multiplayer online role-playing games and casual games in China in late 2005 or early 2006.” No way in hell this will work, help or save people from themselves, but I give ‘em credit for adding even more layers of bureaucracy.

    From my reading of the article, it’ll be forced on game servers, not clients.

    I wonder if there will be longer term effects on game design rising from this. Lose the Chinese market, or design for a three hour playing session… shouldn’t be a tough call for MMO producers.
