Quick Bits

Email tip from news hound, Sargondai, about this Warcraft skirmish, between a group of roleplaying pirates and GM Tellari. (forums down as of this writing *sigh*) Fear not! Here’s a link to a screenshot of the conversation. Yar, it be good clean fun.

Also, if you’re a fan of irony, head over to the Frag Dolls corporate-crafted blog and check the April 29, 2005 entry by Rhoulette (*sigh* ever hear of permalinks?), examining the Lara Croft conundrum … y’know, women gamers that support an industry known for its objectification of women … or was it an industry that supports women gamers known for their objectification of women? I’m so easily confused.

Lastly, I’m working on changing the look and organization ’round here. Improved usability (mine, of course) and all that. If you stop by and it’s screwy, now you know why.

Also, STOP USING INTERNET EXPLORER. Jesus, I spend five minutes adjusting something in Firefox and two hours beating IE into submission. Safari, Opera, Linux, you guys are on your own. I only know enough to be dangerous.

  1. Safari user here. If it works in Firefox then there is about a 99% chance that it will work exactly the same in Safari. It has finally gotten support for min/max-width/height on positioned elements with the latest update and that was pretty much the only widely used feature that it was missing.

  2. Most browsers that I’m aware of on Linux use Mozilla’s rendering engine, Gecko. If it works fine in Firefox, it’ll work fine in any browser using Gecko.

God, I hate IE. It somehow manages to mess up something.

  3. Posts about WoW? Foton, GW hasn’t fell out of your good graces already has it?

  4. Still working on GW. That’s not to say I’ve figured it out and I’m working it. GW is very much working me.

However! I check my local Crack House for any good Warcraft deals and keeping up with any breaking drama is always a priority of mine. 🙂

  5. HAHA. Ya, the foofy colors have to go. I’m already feeling more sensitive to everyone’s needs.

  6. While it was funny, it was also pretty stupid. Spitting on a GM telling you to knock it off is like flipping off a bouncer telling you to cool it at a nightclub. The same sort of people would probably be complaining “You can’t do this! I didn’t go anything wrong! My cover charge pays your salary! This is an abuse of power!” while being tossed out the front door. Of course, everyone else in the club is laughing at the idiot getting the treatment

  7. Weeeeee, and down the rabbit hole we go!

First I heard of this mysterious server transfer of a Warcraft guild (the link in the 7:25 pm comment … which leads to 38 other links about what maybe happened and what the Blizzard Collective is telling everyone to SHUT UP ABOUT, OMG DON’T TALK ABOUT THIS, IT’S PRIVATE).

So, will take me the rest of the night to figure out what maybe happened and then another five minutes to point out the obvious, for which I will take full credit, obviously.

Good news hound work tho, Anonymous! AFK Gamer could use an unpaid summer intern like you!

And to think I was going to write a little snippet about how much difference a day can make with Guild Wars and that I might not hate that game after all.

NO TIME FOR THAT NOW. We’re on a full drama alert, people!

  8. /grin

Dunno man, the people demand more Guild Wars anecdotes! . . . well, *I’m* hoping to hear that it picks up after lush newbie-pre-Searing land.

  9. Hehe, I thought Anon was just a guy who responded to every one of your posts and always had something to say. How wrong and dumb I was! Didn’t know it was short for Anonymous.
